One of my favourite songs from the last few years is the cheeky and eminently danceable “Get Lucky” (despite that B insists it’s about someone after a dog … yeah, something like that). Discovering this week’s cocktail, the Get Lucky, seemed like a good omen.
This cocktail is a modern mix that I found in a women’s magazine as a sidebar to a feature on the Chinese zodiac. Lucky for us we’ve recently been tasting the ingredients featured in this drink!
Ingredients
- 0.25 oz crème de cassis
- 6 fresh raspberries
- 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
- 1.5 oz premium white rum
- 1 oz elderflower liqueur
- mint leaves for garnish
Pour the crème de cassis into the bottom of a martini glass. In a shaker, muddle the raspberries with the lemon juice; pour in the rum and the elderflower liqueur, and shake well. Fill the martini glass with crushed ice and double-strain the contents of the shaker over the ice. Garnish drink with a mint leaf or two, plus additional raspberries.
The verdict: Delicious! This cocktail is surprisingly balanced, and even the white rum haters finished it. The crème de cassis does not mix readily, though, so a stir stick is a good idea for serving. Crank up the Daft Punk and enjoy!
