It’s a combination of a Vesper and…
We had some new orange bitters we wanted to try and I went looking for something that might suit our tastes and current bar stock. This drink popped up almost right away, but as I looked further I found that Vesperado is a pretty common name among mixologists and no two recipes were the same… or even remotely similar. The only common factor was that they seemed to be a combination of Ian Fleming’s Vesper and something else. So this is the one I chose.. no history or provenance, but it looked like it would taste pretty darn good.
Ingredients
- 2 oz tequila (they suggest gold, we used some nice silver)
- 1/2 Cocchi Americano
- 4 dashes orange bitters
Serve on the rocks and garnish with an orange.
The verdict: The tequila disappears in this cocktail and the astringent blend of the Cocchi and the orange bitters dominate…in a good way. A slow sipper, for sure but it received grudging approval from all around the table which is unusual with drinks on the bitter side of the scale.
