The Vesper

Tasked with using up some leftover ingredients Z hunted down some drinks containing said ingredients and stumbled upon this one. The Vesper was invented by a friend of Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels, and was made famous by appearing (recipe and all) in his novel Casino Royale. In Casino Royale Bond asks for a martini to be “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet.” And so we just had to give this literary masterpiece a try.

Note: Due to changes in ingredients recipes we will be substituting Kina Lillet with Cocchi Americano (see explanation in Corpse Reviver No. 2).

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ oz gin
  • ½ oz vodka
  • 1 oz Cocchi Americano/Kina Lillet

Asper Bond’s instructions: “Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?””

The verdict: very tasty and easy drinking. A good gin drink even for those who are not normally gin drinkers. We all liked it very, very much.
